David Lynch’s trailer for the Vienna International Film Festival

The 3 Rs - David Lynch

Viennale 2011 posterThe Viennale, or the Vienna International Film Festival, has unveiled its latest trailer for the festival. Called The 3 Rs, Lynch’s trailer is unique to say the least.

We haven’t seen David Lynch since 2006’s Inland Empire, a three-hour piece that has completely divided critics. Yet he has been far from quiet. He collaborated with Werner Herzog by producing My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done with regular Lynch star Grace Zabriskie. He’s also had the most eclectic series of appearances from a regular guest-voice on The Cleveland Show, making a 16-minute promotional film for Dior called Lady Blue Shanghai and directing a concert film for Duran Duran!

The Viennale runs from 20 October to 2 November 2011, and some of its highlights this year will be David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive and Lars von Trier’s Melancholia. You wouldn’t know that from the trailer, of course.
