Scott Zabielski to helm Police Academy remake

Police Academy - Lassard's Treat at the Podium

Police Academy (1984) posterThis is the news we’ve been waiting for, people. Deadline has broken the news that the long-awaited (at least by us) remake of the Police Academy films from New Line Cinema willthe guidance of Scott Zabielski.

The series began in 1984 with the singularly titled Police Academy, rolling on until 1994’s seventh (!) entry in the series, Police Academy: Mission to Moscow. The series had pulled in a remarkable figure of over $200 million at the box office, not to mention home video and DVD sales. This is despite sequels almost universally being critically panned.

There aren’t many series beyond horror franchises and certain schoolboy wizards who make it to seven features, so it is unsurprising that

Zabielski is best know for producing and directing TV series Tosh.0, starring Daniel Tosh. It seems likely that he would be involved in this film somehow.

We’ll be down at the Blue Oyster Bar until further notice. In the meantime, here’s the original 1984 trailer:
