JFF16: Japanese Film Festival Adds Space Brothers and Friends: Naki on Monster Island

Japanese Film festival LogoAt the SMASH! Sydney Manga and Anime Show on the weekend, the Japan Foundation Sydney announced two titles from the 16th Japanese Film Festival, to be held in late 2012.

Space Brothers is a live-action Japanese movie directed by Yoshitaka Mori and based on a manga by Chuya Koyama. It stars stars Shun Oguri as Mutta and Masaki Okada as his younger brother Hibito, two brothers who make a childhood promise to go into space together. It was released in Japan in May 2012.

Friends: Naki on Monster Island is a 2011 computer animated film from Takashi Yamazaki (Space Battleship Yamato) and Ryūichi Yagi, based on the children’s novel Naita Aka Oni by Hirosuke Hamada.

These join the previously announced Always: Sunset on Third Street 3, which was teased on the closing night of JFF15 last year.
