Neil Gaiman Brings Cybermen Back to Doctor Who

Cybermen - BBC

Neil GaimanThe BBC has confirmed that the Cybermen will return for the 2013 series of Doctor Who, and will be reintroduced by none other than Neil Gaiman. The British writer’s previous episode was the Hugo Award-winning “The Doctor’s Wife”, back in Series 6. The Cybermen were last seen as background villains in the same season’s “Closing Time”, but this was not well received by fans.

The new season will see Matt Smith reprise his role as the Doctor and Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new companion. The episode co-stars Warwick Davis (clearly getting his career back on track after Life’s Too Short), Tamzin Outhwaite and Jason Watkins (Being Human) as “a band of misfits on a mysterious planet.” All planets are better with the modifier “mysterious”.

According to the source, Steven Moffat, Lead Writer and Executive Producer of the show, said:

“Cybermen were always the monsters that scared me the most! Not just because they were an awesome military force, but because sometimes they could be sleek and silver and right behind you without you even knowing. ’ He added, ‘And with one of the all-time classic monsters returning, and a script from one of our finest novelists, it’s no surprise we have attracted such stellar names as Tamzin, Jason and Warwick.”
