Netflix officially orders ‘The Punisher’ to series

The Punisher (Netflix)

The Netflix union with Marvel Studios just keeps getting bigger. Following the success of his appearance in Daredevil: Season 2 this year, Marvel has announced that Netflix have ordered a full season of THE PUNISHER for the streaming service.

According to the press release, Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher, with Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal) will serve as Executive Producer.

Many will agree that Bernthal has become the definitive screen version of Frank Castle, bringing an unlikely mix of menace and pathos in a season of Daredevil that constantly surprised us. Previous cinematic outings – from 1989’s Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane in 2004’s The Punisher (and a later fan film) and Ray Stevenson’s Punisher: War Zone (2008) – have had mixed receptions from critics and fans. It is exciting to explore a lengthier version of Castle’s story on screen.

There’s no word on when it will drop, but Netflix will have its Marvel dance card full with Luke Cage in September, followed by Iron Fist, The Defenders and another season of Jessica Jones in there somewhere. THE PUNISHER is the sixth Marvel series that Netflix has ordered.
