Todd McFarlane joins with Blumhouse for Spawn reboot

Spawn

“Blumhouse. Spawn. Badass. R. Get ready for it, we’re going into production. No more talking, it’s time to do.”

And with that, SPAWN creator Todd McFarlane officially announced on Facebook that a new film based on his comic book character would finally see the light after years of rumours.

McFarlane Films will team with Blumhouse Production, the people behind horror flicks Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge, Sinister, Split and Get Out.

Originally appearing in Spawn #1 back in 1992, the character previous got adapted into a critically panned film starring Michael Jai White in 1997. The actor later joined the voice cast of an animated series based around Spawn. The character became emblematic of the 1990s style of anti-hero, an über-violent vigilante with a supernatural twist.

In the announcement video below, McFarlane is joined by filmmaker Kevin Smith, who is currently working on the Spawn spin-off series Sam & Twitch for BBC America.
