NEWS: Yeah, we know.

Sure, The Avengers has made well over $1 billion dollars globally, flying into the all-time top 10 worldwide box office records in only a matter of weeks. It was the culmination of a franchise that built an entire cinematic universe based on a long-running set of Marvel comics. Yet the real test that you’ve made it is when the porn parody is released. Announced months ago, Avengers XXX: A Porn Parody was released this week on DVD and has broken another record by jumping to the top of the adult charts as well.

We know this has been out for a while, but we had to cover it. While we won’t be posting any clips, despite the huge rise in stats (amongst other things) that it would net us, Axel Braun’s Avengers XXX: A Porn Parody from Vivid – not to be confused with Wicked’s similarly titled but completely unrelated 2011 film XXX Avengers – is described on the box in the following way:

After the extraordinary success of Spider-Man XXX, award-winning director Axel Braun and world leader Vivid Entertainment join forces once again for a new high-budget, sexy, superhero-themed spoof. Featuring the most complete Avengers line-up ever brought to the screen, and all the painstaking attention to detail that fans have come to expect from Braun’s work, The Avengers XXX is another delightfully entertaining labor of love that will please even the most hardcore comic book fans…in more ways than one.

It features all the characters of the real film, plus something that Marvel Studios can’t currently do: including Spider-Woman, Ms. Marvel, Sharon Carter, The Scarlet Witch, and even Spider-Man. Thor also gets a helmet, and Hawkeye is in his original costume, Clearly, Marvel can learn a lot from this. Also, former pro-wrestler Chyna plays She-Hulk. Yes.

Now we can all sit back and enjoy the road to Avengers XXX 2.

POSTERS: A trio of awesome posters from Mondo.

Have we mentioned lately how much we love the roster of artists at Mondo? Following the Texas Frightmare Weekend, and the Alamo Drafthouse’s Summer of 1982 Series, they have released some very special leftover posters for sale.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer gets a fresh take from Australian artist Ken Taylor, infusing his rock-star stylings into Michael Rooker’s visage. The beautiful and haunting simplicity of the poster belies the horror and visceral violence that lies beneath the surface, much like Henry himself! There were a limited amount of 245 of these as a 24″ x 36″ screen print.

Jason Edmiston tackles Conan the Barbarian, reminding us of why Arnie is the only one who should ever bear the mantle. Finally, Jay Shaw’s poster for A Nightmare on Elm Street is reminiscent of the poster for Steve McQueen’s Shame, except instead of the lingering possibility of a tussle in the sheets with Michael Fassbender’s penis, there is the stylised rendering of Robert Englund’s head. Sleep on that.

If you want these, follow Mondo News on Twitter to find out the sale dates. Be quick, as these tend to disappear in minutes, only to mysteriously reappear on eBay moments later!

VIDEO: Another viral video from Ridley Scott's latest.

Verizon FiOS has debuted another viral video as part of the campaign for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. The video features Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw (‘Lisbeth?) trying to contact Weyland, who also seem to be looking for potential people to join them.

Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner, returns to the genre he helped define. WithPrometheus, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Prometheus opens in 3D on 8 June 2012 from Fox.

TRAILER: Gondry is back...to being Gondry?

The Cannes Director’s Fortnight will see the debut of Michel Gondry‘s latest film, The We and I. Following the blockbuster disappointment of The Green Hornet (except for us, we loved it), Gondry goes indie with this look at the kids on the bus.

The We and the I is the heartfelt and comical story of the final bus ride home for a group of young high school students and graduates. As kids depart the bus for the last time, we get to learn about these graduates as they step into the world – their love, their conflicts, their despair and their hope.

Head over to the Director’s Fortnight site for the official word. The poster is from IMPAwards.

According to the source, he will play Eric Savin.
What We’ve Been Watching:

A collection of other things we’ve been watching during the week.

Feature Film Review 1

‘Dark Shadows’ directed by Tim Burton and written by Seth Grahame-Smith from a story by John August and Seth Grahame-Smith based on the TV series by Dan Curtis. It stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Chloe Grace Moretz, Bella Heathcote and Christopher Lee.

An imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins, is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his protection. Source: IMDB

Richard’s Verdict: Tedious Tim Burton makes the film boring.

Watch the trailer here http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/darkshadows/

Feature Film Review 2

‘Safe’ Written and directed by Boaz Yakin. It stars Jason Statham, Catherine Chan, Chris Sarandon and James Hong.

Mei, a young girl whose memory holds a priceless numerical code, finds herself pursued by the Triads, the Russian mob, and corrupt NYC cops. Coming to her aid is an ex-cage fighter whose life was destroyed by the gangsters on Mei’s trail. Source: IMDB

Our Verdict: It’s a rental at best. Decent action scenes can’t save the very 80s style cheese.

Watch the trailer here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3an3bwdVRsU

Lists of Five

This week our Lists of Five: Five People Who Are Repeating Themselves… Repeating Themselves. Let’s face it, there are a few (if not many) of our favourite show people that are just phoning it in now days, here are five examples.
Just a reminder, because we never like to just make things easy on ourselves, our lists are not necessarily top five lists, they are more or a less a list of film recommendations within the theme of the list.

POSTER: By the beard of Zeus! It's a poster for the new Anchorman film.

The Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide (via Coming Soon) has released a new poster for Anchorman sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues.

The previously untitled follow-up to 2004′s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was originally announced on Conan O’Brien to jazz flute, and will see all of the original cast, including Will Ferrell, Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd. Original director Adam McKay will continue the journey of a man who is very important. He has many leather-bound books and his apartment smells of rich mahogany.

All we know about this monolithic film is that it will be with us all next year.
