Geoffrey Rush appointed President of new academy (AACTA)

AACTA - Geoffrey Rush

In a ceremony at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney last night, the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) was officially launched, with Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush appointed as its first president.

Launched by the Australian Film Institute (AFI) in August 2011, the primary role of AACTA is to identify, award, promote and celebrate Australia’s greatest achievements in film and television. It is analogous to the BAFTA (UK) and AMPAS (US), and aims to establish the Australian industry as a credible force on the international front.

AACTA membership is offered exclusively to performers and practitioners working within the Australian screen industry via our accreditation process.
