2012 Writers Guild Award nominees announced

50/50 - the big shave

Writers Guild AwardsJust when you thought you’d seen the last of the guild nominations, the Writers Guild of America has released its list of nominees for the best written films of 2011.

Unlike some of the previous guild lists appearing, the WGA has given a fair bit of weight to comedy, with all five of the original screenplay nominations playing for laughs. It is also interesting to note that many of the lead contenders in all of the other awards are adapted screenplays, just going to show that even at the artier end of the scale, everything is an adaptation these days.

The winners will be announced at ceremonies in New York and Hollywood on 19 February 2012.

Have you got your Oscar winners picked yet?
