Christopher Eccleston To Play Villain in Thor: The Dark World

Christopher Eccleston - Doctor Who and Thor: The Dark World

The Mighty Thor 347 CoverDeadline has confirmed that former Doctor Who lead Christopher Eccleston will portray Malekith the Accursed in Thor: The Dark World, the sequel to 2011’s Thor.

For those of you not enrolled in intermediate comics studies, Malekith is the leader of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. Based on Norse legend, the character first appeared all the way back in 1984’s Thor #344 as has been a long-time foe of Thor. Malekith once struck a deal with Loki to control humans.

Given that Tom Hiddleston is well and truly confirmed as appearing in the sequel, it is conceivable that the two will work in concert on screen as they did in the comics. The super-intelligent character should be an easy for Eccleston, who was once The Doctor after all.

Shooting is to set to commence late August in the UK, with proposed shoots at the famous Bourne Wood area.

Directed by Alan Taylor, Thor: The Dark World is released on 8 November 2013.
