‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ trailer digs on that 80s retro vibe

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

Jumanji is back! In pog form! Or at least in trailer form! Sony Pictures Releasing Australia has sent us a look at the local trailer ahead of the Boxing Day 2017 release in Australian cinemas. Picking up on that retro 80s vibe the kids are digging, Jumanji is now a old console video game.

In the brand new adventure JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE, the tables are turned as four teenagers in detention are sucked into the world of Jumanji. When they discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, they are immediately thrust into the game’s jungle setting, into the bodies of their avatars, played by Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji –Jumanji plays you.  They’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, or they’ll be stuck in the game forever.

Directed by Jake Kasdan, the film stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, and Bobby Cannavale. Before you complain that Hollywood is continuing to pillage your childhood, you might want to check out the trailer below. If the final product is half as fun as the trailer below, even with the usual lowbrow humour and CG trappings it brings, we might just have an unexpected hit on our hands. Yet judging from the Internet reaction today, apparently Se7en and Heat were minor bit players in the cinema of 1995.

Jack Black’s character might speak for us all when he quips “I’m an overweight, middle-aged man!”
